Free scores from A Virtuoso Christmas
We have included scores (for free download) from A Virtuoso Christmas and added a solo piece for guitar, Variations on My Country ‘Tis of Thee. Five pieces from A Virtuoso Christmas include parts and two pieces are for guitar solo: Variations on Good King Wenceslas and Variations on Lo, How a Ros’ E’er Blooming.
There is a back story as to why The Russian Dance and Dance the Sugar Plum Fairy scores are missing. These works and the Arab Dance — taken from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet — were the three pieces arranged by John Stover. John sadly passed away over a decade ago and never provided digital scores. It’s unfortunate because these three arrangements are standouts on the album.
I’ve always been attracted to the theme and variations form, and my arrangement of the sixteenth centry hymn, Lo, How a Ros’ E’er Blooming, presents the melody in the style of renowned lute and guitar composers through the ages, including Milán, Dowland, Back, Sor, Torroba, and Tedesco.
We also added digital orchestral accompaniment on the audio versions of a few of the pieces, including Pachelbel’s Canon in D-major, Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and the Christmas Medley for two guitars and orchestra.
